 |
|
LANCASTER, Pa. - Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said Thursday that the escalation of U.S. troops in Iraq, which he had opposed, has succeeded in reducing violence "beyond our wildest dreams."
But Iraq still has failed to achieve the political reconciliation and self-sufficiency that is required, he said, and he vowed to withdraw American troops and end the war.
Republicans repeatedly have accused Obama of denying the military progress being made in Iraq and of wanting to pull out when victory is within reach.
Campaigning in Pennsylvania on Thursday, Obama was more effusive than usual in describing the reduction in violence that resulted largely from President Bush's decision to send thousands of more troops to Iraq in 2007. But he stuck to his assertion that "the surge" has not led to the political reconciliation among quarreling factions that was its larger goal.
Speaking to several thousand people in a sun-drenched park in Lancaster, Obama said his Republican opponent, John McCain, "wants to ignore the first five years of the war and just talk about the last one. And that's fair, because the truth is that the violence has gone down beyond our expectations."
However, Obama said, "the argument was and continues to be: When are we going to turn over responsibility to the Iraqis for their own country? When are they going to resolve their political differences?"
That will happen when he is president, Obama said, "because we are going to withdraw our troops" and, while giving Iraqis support, "we are going to bring this war to a close."
Earlier Thursday, in taping a segment for Fox's "O'Reilly Factor," Obama said the surge of U.S. troops has "succeeded beyond our wildest dreams."

It pains me a great deal to say this but I have lost a lot of respect for you, to come in here and bashing Obama while you claim to be a democrat is beyond belief. I, too, was a staunch supporter of Hillary and when she lost I was hurt. However, I also recognize what Obama’s presidency represents for my generation and the many more to come. Go ahead and vote for McCain and get another 4 to 8 years of the Bush administration. Palin is a greater threat to Hillary’s legacy than Obama can ever be. She will probably run for president in 2016 if not 2012. Wake up brother and get a hold of yourself; you are starting to exhibit cheerleading tendencies. _________________ Esquire |

Come on guys...Relax...No need to take H1 so seriously. He's just having some fun at your expenses and some of you are falling for it hook, line and sinker! _________________ Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

SO what was he suppose to say? that the violence hasn't gone down when it has?
But the questions till remains, if a surge is the only way to keep violence down in Irak, how long can we keep it going?
I am pretty sure it is takin up a lot of ressources and we have already used up too much of that on the war.
THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER WAY! |

i`m done with H1 i don`t if he realize what his doing but as lawyer or a person you should watch what you say on a public forum like this cause you never know who`s reading. i know you can do better and by the way it`s your choice to like any candidate you want but you don`t have to hate the other |

If I am not like you then you denegrate. No wonder you Haitian. Thanks, Obama said something that conflicts with his initial political position and now he back tracks. He did not support surge but under pressure he caves!!
Well, I will bring this out more often because its good to be informed and have different perspectives.

dude nobody going to banish you or anything but if you are a democrat like you said your are why not supporting the party you believe in why do you want to put the country to another 4 years of the same old thing. look how mccain was talking about change last night nobody say anything about that cause we want change if mccain can bring that we will vote for him but we both know voting in the white house will give us more of the same |
