Kool Konpa

BIOGRAPHY
Kool Konpa is Kompa Band (Haitian Music) based in Miami, Florida. The group was formed on October 2005 and has one album and two video clips under its belt.

Kompa music can be played with or without a horn section, and Kool Konpa is structured for both. As a full band, there are twelve musicians performing, but usually are nine on stage.

Two school friends, John Seme and Lesly Rigaud created Kool Konpa. After sequencing their first invention named “Vag”, they decided to seek for other musicians to complete the band.

Ronald, Maxime, Gregory and started a Digital Format Band. Six months later, they went to a studio and worked on their first album (Karese mwem). Unfortunately, due to their school schedule and lack of management, the album did not get the exposure, nor the promotion required for the advancement of the band.

As a good student and for the love of the music and specially the Kompa rhythm, John Seme, with the strong support of Maxime Sincere hangs on and together they worked on a second album.

In April 2007, while working at “Klere Studio”, they met with Jean-Max Benjamin AKA DJ Max from the JMB Entertainment and Promotions who negotiated the production of the second album and the Management of the new Kool Konpa Formation.

In October 2007, musicians were gathered, rehearsal studio equipped, and Kool Konpa began their preparation for live production.

The band consists of:

John Seme, (Keyboard, Composer, and band leader) and Maxime Sincere (Lead Singer, Composer).

Seven members: Wilnick Colin (Singer), Wilbert Sylvain, AKA Roro (Lead Guitar), Herby Sincere (Percussions), Andy Jules (Drums), Patrick Dieudonne (Congas), Dolson (Guitar Accompaniment) and Eddy Bass (Bass).

Three horns sections [Optional] (Trumpet, Trombone and Saxophone)

Kool Konpa’s dynamic style is a true renaissance on Haitian musical scene. Playing Kompa, the popular music genre of Haiti, the band is 9 musicians band to be reckoned with. Kool Konpa live performance and songwriting gifts are two particular sources of the group's success with infectious melodies, great singing and masterful playing. Their albums deliver light-hearted and heavy dance, foot-tappers such as "Fan’m Sa", " Vag ", "Padon", "Se Konen, etc.

With a solid new single with great Konpa tunes, the song has worked its way into the wild and diverse repertoire. Kool Konpa's dedication and love for music have helped them become one of Miami's best live bands. Their sense of entertaining and crowd-pleasing has earned them a rabid following and wide notoriety with significant crossover in the Caribbean music scene.

Over the past six months since the release of their single “Fan’m Sa”, and nearly incessant performances, Kool Konpa has shared the stage with superb musicians and performers. The live release has shown the band at its best onstage. They have played in the many clubs and festivals around the United States and especially in South Florida.

Kool Konpa is scheduled to officially release a new album in the early summer 2008 and will begin gigging extensively over the next few months. The album contains ten tracks. The band’s set list has grown over time and varies depending on the type of venues they play. The band’s usual one-hour set includes selections from the approximately 40 songs, all of which the band have rearranged to their own style of music and are adapted to suit the audiences.

Kool Konpa under the new management of JMB Entertainment and Promotions has set themselves high goals and is looking to make a name for themselves in the United States, Europe and eventually the world over the next few years. Their new album will certainly help them get there!
