Not sure where I'm goign with this topic. But i felt the need to express some frustration.

Last night, they finally release a good friend of mine. They kidnapped him excatly 7 days ago in Petion-Ville. As Francois is a Canadian citizen, the Canadian Embassy got involved and the negociations were long. They settle on an ramson amount, but the original demand was of 1million bucks.

Anyhow, he was beaten and abuse. Obviously to what extent, we'll never know. My heart goes to him as it's one of the hardest thing to go through.

Anyhow what is your input on the matter. Kidnapping that is....

First and foremost Sassoune I want to say that I am happy for your friend and sadden that he had to go thru such a horrific ordeal in the country that I love.

Like you I am frustrated when I hear of kidnappings because it seems like some people see it as a get rich quick scheme and they have no regard as to the pain and suffering they cause. I say "some" because I believe some of the kidnappings that go on in Haiti is not always about the money but it's done with the intent to use the abduction in connection with some other heinous objective like politics, revenge etc. but I won't even begin to go there.

I will be honest with you Sassoune when I go to Haiti I am rarely scared. I hear the stories on how bad it is but for some reason I refuse to let that deter me from going to my homeland. I'm one of those people (call me naive) who hasn't lost hope for a better Haiti. I see it's potential even thru the darkest times because I know when people like me lose hope "they" have won and I refuse to let that happen.

Again I'm sorry Sassoune to what happen to your friend.

Se la raj... However I am glad he is okay. It saddens me that people would do such extreme things. What ges me is when small children get innocently caught in the crossfire. These things are scary especially when you know you have dear relatives among near danger..

That's why you are the Queen of KM LadyK

Sassoune, I also feel bad for you and your friend.

Couple months ago I experienced the same level of frustration. A very good friend and of mine (since kindergaden) and his girlfriend got kidnapped. They were held for a week. But thank God he did not get abused. He told me they treated them well, they allowed him to shower. They feed him well. They only told him not to try anything stupid. They let him speak to his mom everyday. And they told him they were gonna get release. They told him they were cops and they got fed up seeing new promotion coming out and make their hustle and make money, while they sacrifice their life for 1400 haitian dollars/month. So every now and then they kidnapped someone.

I think kidnapping is one of the worst things that could happen in Haiti. They kidnapped my relatives in Haiti three times. Thankfully, nothing bad happened to them.

Going to Haiti now, you have to sleep with one eye open and one eye closed. Ayiti son peyi san lwa and it is obviously getting worse.

I say if one doesn't have anything of importance to do in Haiti, stay home ...and pray for the relatives that are currently living there (so that nothing happens to them).

Well, it’s a good thing that your friend is ok now, its one of the hardest thing to be prisoner and to know that your life is in the hands of some criminals and for your family to wonder if you getting out alive. And I’m so sorry that your friend had to go through all this, no human being deserves such pain.
I have my aunt who was kidnapped few months ago and the ransom was so high and they didn't wanna negociate so, she spent 3 to 4 days in there and even though it was couples of months ago, she still hasn’t get over all the trauma, and she still living in fear thinking that one day someone gonna come to her door and take her.
Good luck to your friend and you guys be strong.

It's really sad and sickens me to hear that you have cops participating in these acts. How do they come up with these ransom numbers Shocked Shocked Shocked 1 million dollars? This country is really getting worse by the hour.

I'm supposed to be in Haiti in a couple of days. My friends have been giving me the 3rd degree about going to Haiti since I don't have any emergency and specially at a time like this. After reading this post I'm really debating this decision.

I am wholeheartedly aware about this issue. Last time , wyclef jean was the one to say "Stop'' but nothing has changed. Mario andresol (police commander in chief), i think, does everything he can to get rid of the phenomenon. Guys, the Haitian police doesn't get any help from Minustha.
Last time, CIA went in (les cayes) to catch a dealer ( they didn't find him, fortunately). When it comes to Drugs, national resources, debt, CIA, UN, everyone is concerned. But, why they don't care about Kidnapping? They know they can stop it . ppppp me, I am sick of this world!
