Lucienne Heurtelou, ancienne Première Dame et veuve de l’ancien Président haïtien, Dumarsais Estimé (1946-1950), a été tuée de deux balles vendredi après-midi au cours d’un hold-up dans une bijouterie, à la rue Dufort dans le quartier du Bois-Verna (centre de Port-au-Prince), selon des témoignages recueillis sur place par radio Kiskeya.

Madame Estimé, une octogénaire, également ancienne diplomate et mère de l’ancien chancelier haïtien sous le régime de Jean-Claude Duvalier (1971-1986), Jean-Robert Estimé, est décédée alors qu’on la transportait à l’hôpital.

Edouard Dacarett, fils de la propriétaire de la bijouterie, a été blessé au cours de cette attaque menée par un groupe de cinq bandits armés à la maison Dacarett, un ancien magasin du quartier. En fin d’après-midi, un appel d’urgence a été lancé aux donneurs en vue d’apporter du sang au blessé qui se trouvait en salle d’opération dans un hôpital privé de la capitale haïtienne.

Première femme diplomate de toute l’histoire d’Haïti, Lucienne Heurtelou Estimé a été ambassadrice de 1959 à 1971, sous François Duvalier. Il y a environ quatre ans, elle avait publié "Dumarsais Estimé (Dialogue avec mes sdouvenirs)", un livre-témoignage sur la vie politique de son mari, passé à la postérité comme un "grand bâtisseur". Renversé le 10 mai 1950 par un coup d’Etat militaire, Dumarsais Estimé mourut trois ans plus tard à New York, le 20 juillet 1953. spp/RK
