The Da Vinci Code is a book full of controversies at best leaving you on a cloud of doubts if taken into account many of its narrated subjects. On May 19th The Christian Community has yet to suffer another blow of having to see million of individuals heading to the Theater inquisitively in search of answers to their growing skepticism and finding out what is it about this movie for quite some time had religious leaders around the world on a defensive stand. Amid myriad of criticisms on its validity and acceptance; i would like to know KM members say on this matter and how many of you already made plan on seeing it a week from now?

Hum I think the catholics (included myself) should go and see this movie. I've just said the word "Movie" inspired by a book written by Dan Brown.

Since this book is out, a lot of people seems to get interested into religion and try to find out if it's true or not (here also included myself). Well on french tv, there was 5/6 months ago a great movie about the contradictions of the book (Pour les français c'était sur M6, un dimanche soir dans "Secret d'actualités". Je pense qu'il y aura bientôt une rediffusion dû à la sortie du film). Some things are true some are not :idea:

And about the Christian community (You can say in majority the Vatican and the puritans), saw in this book a blasphem. Well this time I'm in NO WAY offended. It's just a book!

I love the Da Vinci code, the book that is and in now way did it affect my religious beliefs.
My beliefs come from the heart and no book, no matter how intellectual stimulatiing it may be can shake that foundation.
If your spiritual foundation is weak, then you're going to doubt everything that you've ever believed in after reading this book.

I read it as a work of fiction sprinkled with certain historical facts that can make one believe that they're reading a historical piece. I doubt even Dan Brown, meant it as that.

I plan to see the movie when it comes out but I can already feel my dissapointment. The only way that they could make a movie about the Davinci Code would be to do it as a 3 part mini series that span at least 6 hours.
There is absolutely no way to capture, the all the intrciate details of this book in a 2-3 hour movie.
Furthermore, I disagree with the choice of Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon. He does not match the profile. It would have served the movie producers better to cast not such a well know actor. The same way Mel Gibson cast Jim C as JEsus in the passion of the christ.

Before I lose all faith in the movie, I'll leave an open mind and see how it comes out.
But I would definately recommend anyone to read the book first before seeing the movie.
Angels and Demons is also another great read from Dan Brown.

I just got the book today. I hope to finish it before next Friday, cause I plan to see the movie. From what some of you are saying I should be real careful when reading the book hein!! I've been having doubt, well not so much as doubt but I've been questioning some things. I cannot wait to get home and start my reading. Let's just hope my believe don't get to much of a bitting from the book.

The story itself is quite original and this thriller-religious novel is an idea more than interesting to bring back the interest for religion, and make people think about some ambiguous points...
Even if I did not like this book at all, I got to give credit to Dan Brown for what I've said above.
But we gotta stay realistic : Dan Brown is a mediocre author who found the best seller recipe : controversial subject which touches a lot of people (at least, curiosity will make them buy the book !) and an excellent advertising campaign.

I hope that the film version will raise the level of this simplistic way of telling the story and Dan Brown's lack of style.
As for Dan Brown, of course, he sure did researches, but it does not make of him at all an exegete specialist of the question of the relation between Jesus and Marie Madeleine.
As for the confusion between the Christian blood and the collection of the Saint Graal, the whole mixed to the foundation of Masonry, the Templiers and the mission of the Opus Dei it is only the demonstration of an uncultivated sensationalism!

I cannot wait to see this movie. I am purchasing my tickets in advance to avoid long lines the same day that it comes out. I am not a movies person but this is definitely something worth viewing.

Eve, I woldn't call Dan Brown a mediocre author.

His books take a lot of research, and a lot of skill to put all th tinformation down in a way that is not boring, thta makes sense, not lose the reader and keep the book moving so fast.

Like Raymi said, the book is based on a lot of historical facts, however, some of the things in there, he is definitely grasping at straws and they cannot be seen as facts, such as Jesus always kissing mary on the lips.. etc.

He is allowed to do that, the book is FICTION. Some people forget that when they read it, and it is easy to do so.

But like Raymi said, the only way this book can shake your faith is if it wasn't on steady ground to begin with. But it does raise some questions about the catholic church, but what else is new.

Questions have been raised about the catholoc church for a long time. Dan Brown wouldn't be the first.

He is raising a very strong issue in the Christian Community for sure. The creation of the New testament is controversal in itself. The Jesus-Marie Madeleine relationship has been raising for quite a while now. It was not new to me. But did the book answer the why question:

If in fact Jesus itself had such relationship, why did they hide it?

Of course, it remains fiction and of course he has the right to do so.
I guess I'm a too difficult reader or maybe the French translation is not as interesting as the original book.
But I stand behind my opinion, I've read better authors than Brown who remains for me just somebody who understood what people want and how to sell it.
I see no ellaborated style in his novels...The DaVinci Codeand Anges et Démons are, for me, what we call in France, "Romans de gare"...not great litterature.
