 |
|
------------------------------------------------------------
CARIMI manager FITO FARINEN told KM today that BETON AN GLISSE in Haiti when it comes to KANAVAL. The slightest thing perceived as wrong in the eyes of a select few; can tip the scale of your kanaval's popularity the wrong way. He tells us this.
FARINEN: "An example of that was our kanaval "CHIMANO" from a couple of years ago. Like we always do when CARIMI does a kanaval, we always get together to discuss what's good and what's not good. At the beginning of the kanaval, there was this PWET (Fart) part which did NOT go down well at all in Haiti with certain key sectors. RICHARD told us that it was NOT a good idea, but the rest of us overruled him because we thought it was just a FUN part and that it would be cool. WE WERE WRONG. 2 days after the kanaval came out, I got the sense that THAT PART was a major mistake and I was right. (He laughs)"
FITO continues "I had people from Haiti calling me telling me that it was a bad move and that turned off some people. It's also like a wave in Haiti when it comes to kanavals. If some key people start saying that a meringue is no good or is missing something, it's going to pick up like a wave. You live and learn I guess."

*FITO ON WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE INPUT FROM KEY FANS OF THE BAND IN HAITI FOR KANAVAL*****
FITO: "That's extremely important to have input from key fans IN HAITI about our kanaval meringues. They are the ones that are there LIVING THE VIBE. YO SOU BETON AN, and they are the ones that will be going out there to support the band SOU BETON AN. They will tell you straight up at rehearsal if they think a part is good or not. They will tell the band without hesitation if they think our kanaval is good or not. YO VLE GIN BAGAY NAN MIN YO POU YO AL NAN BATAY POU JAZ LA DEYO A. If they are not feeling the kanaval meringue that you are doing, they are not going to be motivated to go out there to battle because they might feel as if they will be at a disadvantage. So YES, we do take the words and input of some our our KEY FANS IN HAITI when it comes to kanaval. VERY IMPORTANT indeed."
*CARIMI have already started working on their kanaval according to FITO
CARIMI manager on if it's a good move or not to....
