The HMI is in more trouble than we thought. Again the HMI is the theatre to which its actors play out scenes from the real Haitian problem; Ego, Selfishness, and Greed.

Very recently two bands had a golden opportunity to really earn the label of being leaders or number ones in Konpa music. However, they chose to repeat the same errors of the past. However so called fans of the genre are so intoxicated by false sense of status they applaud trivial behavior and remain short sited. Konpa is on life support. Klass and Nu look had an opportunity to set an example and be the game changer each respective members claim they are. Instead they regress to behavior that highlight all that is wrong with konpa; which are the actors and the audience that support them. They write songs about friendly competition, an HMI without Iporkrizi, and depi bondye bay lavi Konpa pap mouri etc.

Richie said he underestimated the intentions of Nu Look but yet had some kind of matla skit. After complaining about the orchestra not really playing, who originated the idea etc. You should always be prepared to present your best regardless who is on the other side. About stop underestimating what the fans deserve to see.

Next you have Arly who attempted something different for a change for konpa standards but now he is so happy that he is now claiming to be king and as usual flexing his muscle from a position of power; fool’s gold if you ask me. The orchestra was not fully incorporated into the music like they could have been; any unbiased person can see and hear that. It was a nice visual with limited classical orchestration participation and we were so starved for something fresh, we accepted it. It was nice but the aftermath ruined it. What is a king without a kingdom to rule? A kingdom is a reflection of its king Sire and the kingdom is crumbling. In reality what are you ruling exactly?

Konpa is your mission, well the mission is failing. Wake up!!!! The obituary is being written as we speak and your guys are holding the hammers that will hit the nails of the coffin. Konpa is supposed to be bigger than one person and bigger than each individual part, it is a reflection of a nation. You all could have come together at the height of your popularity and put on a show to showcase your talents, diversity, collaboration, compromise, and creativity. It could have been a tour still driven by competition but promoting our music.

Give the youth an example to follow. As you tour, you could have invited different groups that play different styles of konpa. Also you could of given people around the world a real sense of what konpa is. Even if the genre were to die, your actions of solidarity would live forever.

In the big picture who will remember Nu Look or Klass without konpa as a forum? Who will remember Richie, Pipo, or so called “king” Arly Lariviere without a canvas to continue to express their respective creativity? Guess what, your accomplishments will all be buried along with Konpa. Can you all make it in other industries? If you did not have konpa, would you be a superstar maker or would you have mega hits, or have people to sing along with you? Strictly talking about music, I am not talking about your ability to make a living doing other things. Reality Check!

Then again, this might all just be a way to promote the next bal, just don't know. Rolling Eyes

The best I have read for quite a while.

May I add that this whole showdown did not add one extra customer to the HMI. It is always the same usual suspects, the bad advisers, the careers hijackers, the band soldiers who will join the various forums to poison the atmosphere and stir the rhetoric in the same haitianity way of doing things.

While you will expect Richie and Arly to be on the phone in order to plot another event to give a boost to Kompa, they went separate ways in damage control and bragging rights...Very sad

2 weeks ago, I was on vacation and had time to stay consumed in this whole NuLook-Klass showdown, but I was quite disappointed when I went out at the restaurant, bar, and other Haitian circles, nobody knew about anything happening in the HMI. That is the sign of a dying breed. That is so sad

The HMI is losing every single day its customer based due to age, family interest, a plethora of entertainment source through internet, DirectTV/Cables with their zillions of reality TV shows, the latest iphone/android phone. This is what Arly/Richie are fighting against everyday but still don't get it.

Thank you all that responded and contributed. Li le pou neg sa yo realize jan bagay yo abitye fet la pa ka kontinye. One band cannot carry an industry, they don't understand that. What is number 1 without competition and variety? Sispann fe tet gonfle and save your own legacy. Nou ka mete ti epis san gate manje a mesye. You can use a lost as motivation to be better etc. Promote others while you are on top. live the lyrics of your songs. If there is no konpa there is no legacy for any konpa musician. Also as fans, we deserve better and we have a responsibility to demand more. At the same time, we should support quality instead of trying to manage our shout-outs on records or "honorable" mentions. The truth is rarely popular, but it must be said.
