So I had a long discussion with a friend today and thought it was worth hearing your opinion on this:

Nu-Look (2002-2008), Zenglen (Nicki/Gracia Version), Djakout (La Familia- Jistis), which band was musically superior? What in your honest opinion made one better than the other?

Popularity's important but let's make MUSIC the focus of your argument.

Musically speaking, Zenglen is by far the best band of its generation.

This is really between Nu-Look and Zenglen.

I think the HEIGHT of Zenglen's musical excellence occured at the end of Gracia's tenure with "Nou Pei Fren" ("Kontwol"). You can feel and hear Richie really producing a higher quality of work. But alas, Gracia ale. But to me Zenglen's best work was "5 Etwal". ON STAGE and ON CD, this was Zenglen BEST konpa with Frerot and Reginald. So because you asked about Nicky/Gracia, then I have to go with Nu-Look.

Nu-Look with "Big Mistake" and "Still News" was a band that was BALANCED. Quality konpa direk with Gazzman and hit love songs with Arly, epi yon mechan djazz ki jwe live: ban deye red and superb guitarists in Gabriel Laporte and Ralph Conde.


I have to go with Nu-Look during those years 2002 - 2008.

Djakout was the more POPULAR band out of three, with good reason. Djakout te gin mega hit nan plak La Familia and Biznis Pam. But Jitis pat delivre like the ones prior.

@Dj Kreyol : If it were only about the quality of one Album, NYAS would be up there for sure. Just like NYAS, that version of Zenglen didn’t last long enough to be included. But I have one question for you though: if you were to pick a song from that Frerot/Reginald zenglen to put up against a song like “Lanmou Pa konn diapora”, what would it be?

@DJ Don, I think Djakout is musically underrated! Don’t let the “djazz fe bri” tag fool you, their best work ka kanpe devan nenpot band. My only problem with djakout is that they usually waste their best productions: songs like “lafamilia’, ‘sa’w mete’ are arguably some of the best compositions you’ll ever hear but lyrics yo telman banal ou pa ran ou kont beaute music sa yo!

This is between Zenglen and NU LOOK of course. Even as a huge NL fan then, I have to give a slight edge to Zenglen musically. Zenglen and NU LOOK are the two best band musically of this generation but zenglen definitely is the kind.

If it's more about music then it should be just between NuLook and Zenglen. Even as a fan of Djakout, I would not put them up there with NuLook and Zenglen musically.
I would go with NuLook, te gen plis hit songs epi kom se pa mizik selman popularite NuLook te pi haut nan epok sa yo sitou apre Gracia te fin'n kite...
