Zenglen @ SOBs – Friday July 31, 2009
Last night I got me a well overdue dose of Zenglen at SOBs. The crew showed up filled with energy and played nonstop as if they were on a mission to solidify their presence in the NYC market. That they did with ease!!!!!!! The crowd danced and cheered them all night as Zenglen played several NYC favorites:

Tifi a leve (I will confirm the name of this song)

SOME HIGHLIGHTS
It was my first time seeing Doggy Style live and all I can say is that the song is a monster live. Dabenz and Kenny gave us a preview of what they intend to do with this song in Haiti! Dwet sou bouch!!

The crew sang Happy Birthday to Nicolina. Because she played the song with them the first time, Ritchie requested that the band replay the song without Nicolina so they can proplerly honor her. On a side note, it’s Nicolina’s 10th year with the band. Ritchie praised her accomplishments by saying that she’s the best baritone player in Miami! Congrats to Nicolina!!!!

The “Kod” factor in Zenglen is HUGE!!!!! I got to witness Pozo live for the umpteeth time and can’t seem to get enough!! Coupling Pozo and Laporte was an ingenius move. Ritchie said it best: Both guitar players in Zenglen scored 10/10 last night.

While they played Nap Peye Bill, midway through the song, the band did a skit where Ritchie made his voice sound just like a hight pitched instrument, while he was still playing the drums. He’s as versatile as an artist gets.

Jude, the keyboard player, is fitting extremely well in the band. I particular liked the way he handled the keys in the song Tifi a leve. Anpil kout keyboard tonbe nan mizik sa a. In addition, his dance tribute to Michael Jackson, right before Zenglen played Doggy Style, made the ladies go crazy last night.

The Ke-Benz movement is working y’all. The energy these two have on stage will cause a problem for the other bands out there. I just can't wait to hear what Ritchie has in store for these two in the upcoming project. I’m looking forward to catching them live again soon!!

OVERALL
Zenglen’s return to SOBs was a triumph!! They played as if they were right at home. Anpil konpa/groove tonbe!! I must say they have found the formula where everyone in the band is at ease with and energizing each other on stage. The Zenglen konpa is not to be reckoned with. As they say in OFF, “Ou met te bulletproof, Zenglen ap deranje’w!”

As usual, when Zenglen is in town, KM members show up in full force to support their band: Bugzy, Strawdeva, Konpa Rockers, Nenevice, Jay Brooklyn, Ricky, Malfrending4life, MetBeton, Jimbo to name a few. It was nice seeing y’all!

GOOD FOR ZENGLEN! I WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED NOT TO BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO SOME OF THE SONGS ON BRUTUS XTRA NUMBER 3 LIKE EVA AND OTHERS
ANYWAY, THAT IS GOOD THEY HAVE PUT SOME HEAT AT SOB'S IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER

Thanks for the review..I had a good time on Friday. I could not complain at all until, in the middle of the night someone just decided to pass gas while the band was playing, where I was standing..that ruined it for me for a little bit. Oh and the heat in there was unbearable..Jube whats up with that can we have a little bit of AC please.
