We asked PAPA JUBE why he chose CARIMI as the Haitian band representative for SUMMER STAGE 2009 this year. This is what he told me.

JUBE: "Greetings Pat,

Well, as you know, Summerstage has hired me as their Urban- Caribbean Music Consultant for the past 4 years, which means, I oversee and book all of their Caribbean shows, which of course include Haitian Music etc...that take place at “SUMMERSTAGE” at Central Park and all the other Parks in the NY Metro area.

Few Years ago, I booked DJAKOUT MIZIK, Black Alex, Mecca etc…but, this year I decided to go with CARIMI simply because I truly believe CARIMI is one of the few konpa bands in the HMI with Cross over potential and mass appeal. Again, there are many groups who may play a better version of “KONPA DIRECT” than CARIMI, but when it comes to a mixed crowd, from my perceptual view, CARIMI is the one.

Their soulful sounds, and English, Spanish lyrics are totally conducive to an international audience. They have proved it over the years at SOBS.

The other reasons are, they are based in NY, they are very easy to work with, and they are dependable. So, when you add all of those great qualities and their humbleness at large, I think I absolutely made the right choice.

However, I will be booking other Konpa groups in the future, but CARIMI had to set the bar."

KM!

Hello
Well i definitly agree with Jube . CARIMI se li ki gen son melanje ki ka mennen nou lwen internationaleman . They have the marketable look and education to fit any situation. Summerstage is one of the finest and most important gig a band could have and it requires a good preparation both for the medias that are covering the event and the ethnic public that comes to enjoy it .
CARIMI pare yo pral mete couleur HAITI byen wo !!!
440 avè yo ... CARIMI ouvri pòt pou sak dèyè .

Another possible choice that fits all of that criteria jube mentioned would be Both KREZI and Harmonick.

I tend to agree with kafou that krezi would have been the other choice obvious choice becuase michael is probably one of the most versatile singer who can adapt to all audiences. He can make any audience grooved. Very prolivalent singer! I have seen this guy and he is all talent!
But, big up carimi! Bon bagay!
